Problems and Solution
Anotace: Algorithms and Programming is primarily intended for a first-year undergraduate course in programming. It is structured in a problem-solution format that requires the student to think through the programming process, thus developing an understanding of the underlying theory. Although the author assumes some moderate familiarity with programming constructs, the book is easily readable by a student taking a basic introductory course in computer science. In addition, the more advanced chapters make the book useful for a course at the graduate level in the analysis of algorithms and/or compiler construction. Each chapter is more or less independent, containing classical and well-known problems supplemented by clear and in-depth explanations. The material covered includes such topics as combinatorics, sorting, searching, queues, grammar and parsing, selected well-known algorithms and much more. Third Edition
Anotace: Some books on algorithms are rigorous but incomplete; others cover masses of material but lack rigor.Introduction to Algorithms uniquely combines rigor and comprehensiveness. Tragédie obleženého města, 1941-1944

Ekonomie vs. mýty
Anotace: Korupce je slovo nabité emocemi. Je nabité spravedlivým rozhořčením, jehož nositel ve svých očích vypadá poctivěji a zásadověji. Za této atmosféry není jednoduché podívat se na fenomén korupce střízlivě, analyticky, chladně logicky. Přesto se o to dvojice mladých ekonomů - Pavel Ryska a Jan Průša - pokusila. Izraelské tajné války
Anotace: Stát Izrael budí již od svého dramatického vzniku v roce 1948 obrovskou pozornost, která je čas od času oživována neméně dramatickými a bouřlivými událostmi. Po první arabsko-izraelské válce v letech 1948–49 následovala tzv. Suezská válka v roce 1956, Šestidenní válka v roce 1967 a Jomkippurská válka v roce 1973 a také izraelská invaze do Libanonu v roce 1982 a první palestinská Intifáda od roku 1987. Následovalo ještě mnoho dalších dnes již legendárních historických momentů. Je skutečně až s podivem, kolik se toho za posledních šedesát let událo okolo malé země jménem Izrael. Vzrušující a nedílnou součástí izraelských dějin byl a dodnes je rovněž nemilosrdný zákulisní boj izraelských tajných služeb. Právě ty izraelské si oprávněně vydobyly po celém světě reputaci obávaného a efektivního nástroje v boji proti (nejen) arabským teroristickým skupinám. Jednu ze slavných epizod jejich existence nám připomíná kontroverzní snímek kultovního režiséra Stevena Spielberga nazvaný zcela prostě Mnichov. Pro pamětníky a odbornou veřejnost je Mnichov 1972 známým pojmem a také mementem jedné z vůbec nejtragičtějších událostí izraelsko-arabského konfliktu. Smrt jedenácti izraelských sportovců na olympiádě, zasvěcené symbolicky míru, vyprovokovala jednu z nejslavnějších operací v dějinách státu Izrael. Odveta izraelské zpravodajské služby Mossad za tento útok vešla do dějin jako legenda ve světě tajných služeb a je popsána také v této knize. Autoři předkládají jednu z nejrozsáhlejších a nejrespektovanějších studií o historii izraelských tajných služeb od počátků 20. století až do roku 1991. Čtenář se dozvídá o leckdy až úsměvných počátcích budování izraelského zpravodajského aparátu v období britského mandátu před druhou světovou válkou, začíná tak chápat klíčovou roli prvních příslušníků tajných služeb pro vznik Izraele. Autoři popisují nejen širší vojensko-politické souvislosti všech popisovaných období, ale též osobní profil prvních nadšených budovatelů a pozdějších profesionálů, kteří tehdy již stáli v čele obávané a výkonné mašinérie. SS Totenkopf France 1940
Anotace: By the end of the Second World War the reputation of Hitler's Schutzstaffel (SS) had become so heavily sullied that the organization was branded criminal and banned in postwar Germany. It's authority in Nazi Germany had been enormous having been made responsible for Reich internal security, it implemented Nazi racial policy and managed the death camps. Most oddly it produced a rival military organization to the German regular army - fighting alongside it but never a part of it - the Waffen SS. SS-Totenkopf is a photographic account of that unit's birth and first month of active service. The Division, formed from concentration camp guards, fought alongside Rommel's 7th Panzer Division against the only British armored counterattack of the campaign. However, instances of atrocities committed by men of the Totenkopf began early and the machine-gunning of 97 prisoners of the Norfolk Regiment occurred. In this brief and violent history of the birth of an SS division the original captions and text which accompanied the photographs have been retained in order to capture the original flavor. The translated text appears inter spaced with the author's explanations. The SS War Correspondent photographers risked their lives to take some of these pictures so up-with-the-action they were and, with their 'blood up', their comments are nationalistically passionate. This is understandable, so successful was the Blitzkrieg campaign in 1940 compared to the efforts of their fathers in 1914-1918 when they failed to break through to the Channel coast. It helps us to understand the euphoric reaction of some of the Totenkopf at the sight of the English Channel. Norman Fríedman
