Anotace: Drama Matka je jedno z protiválečných antifašistických děl Karla Čapka z roku 1938. Matka postupně ve válce ztratí nejprve manžela, potom i syny Ondřeje, Kornela, Petra a Jiřího. Proto chce nejmladšímu synovi Tonimu zabránit jít do boje. Ke změně matčina názoru dochází v okamžiku, kdy poslouchají informace z amplionu. Dozvídají se, že byla potopena civilní loď, kde zemřelo mnoho dětí. Hlasatelka však nemůže dost dobře mluvit, omlouvá se, že na lodi zemřelo též její dítě. Dále se dozvídají že nepřítelem byly zabíjeny děti. Toto zlomí matčino přesvědčení a sama synovi dá pušku a posílá jej bránit vlast. Kritika slov
Anotace: Kritika slov je soubor esejí a fejetonů Karla Čapka. Poprvé byl vydán v roce 1920. Původně však dílo vycházelo v Národních listech. Většina fejetonů se zabývá českým jazykem, nepřesností významů a špatným používáním frází. Autor se pozastavuje nad tím nakolik se ve frázích odráží česká povaha a jak se stálým slovním spojením pracuje žurnalistika. Právě novinářská praxe často kazí pravdivost frází. Anotace:
Hordubal je název novely Karla Čapka a zároveň i ústřední postava díla. Novela patří do tzv. noetické trilogie Hordubal, Povětroň, Obyčejný život. Na základě této předlohy byly natočeny dva filmy – Hordubalové (1937) a Hordubal (1979). Dílo bylo sepsáno na motivy skutečného příběhu. V první části se Juraj Hordubal vrací po osmi letech z Ameriky domů do Podkarpatské Rusi a naivně si myslí, že na něj doma čeká uklizený domov, věrná žena (Polana) a milující dcerka (Hafia). Svůj domov má značně idealizovaný a nepřipouští si, že by to tam mohlo být jiné. Skutečnost, že to vypadá úplně jinak, omlouvá svou dlouhou nepřítomností. Doufá, že si tam na něj brzy zvyknou a všechno bude zase dobré. Ze začátku je přesvědčen, že mu jeho žena byla po celých osm let věrná. Nakonec pravděpodobně začíná tušit, že mu je Polana nevěrná se správcem Štěpánem Manyou. Mezi oběma muži vznikne napjatá atmosféra a Manya je nucen opustit Hordubalův statek. Milenecký vztah mezi Polanou a Štěpánem ale nekončí. Společně se smluví, že Hordubala zabijí, a svůj plán uskuteční. Claudius bůh a jeho žena Messalina
Anotace: Autor zde sleduje další osudy Tiberia Claudia Caesara, který se stal římským imperátorem za pomoci svého přítele Agrippy a vládl až do své násilné smrti v roce 54 n. l. Svoje osudy vypráví ústy autora v čtivém románu, v němž naprosto objektivně a bez samolibosti seznamuje čtenáře nejen se svými drobnými i závažnými státotvornými úspěchy, ale hlavně s celkovou atmosférou doby, v níž se zrodilo křesťanství jako další z historických epoch ve vývoji lidstva Já, Claudius
Anotace: Já, Claudius je historický román britského spisovatele Roberta Gravese, který vypráví historii římské císařské rodiny z první císařské dynastie Juliánsko-Claudiovské z pohledu pozdějšího císaře Claudia. Vyprávění je psáno v první osobě a na pozadí skutečných historických událostí je rozehráván fiktivní příběh, popisující život a intriky tehdejších vládců Středomoří. Kniha byla o rok později následována pokračováním nazvaným Claudius Bůh a jeho žena Messalina, které popisuje dobu panovaní Claudia až do jeho smrti (v závěru je doplněna fiktivní satirou Claudiova současníka na císařovu smrt). Jedná se o druhou autorovu povídku, jejímž hlavním hrdinou je typický měšťák, majitel činžovního domu, Matěj Brouček. Ta první se jmenovala „Pravý výlet pana Broučka do Měsíce“ a je v této knize zmiňována. Hanuman

Anotace: Staré pověsti české je kniha Aloise Jiráska, která popisuje události z české historie založené na lidové slovesnosti a některých historických faktech. Poprvé vyšla v roce 1894 v pražském nakladatelství J. R. Vilímek jako 11. svazek v edici Vilímkova knihovna mládeže dospívající. S výjimkou období protektorátu vycházela opakovaně a často, oblíbil si ji i gottwaldovský komunistický režim, za nějž vycházela s doslovem Zdeňka Nejedlého. Lucerna
Anotace: Lucerna je divadelní hra Aloise Jiráska z roku 1905. Premiéru měla v pražském Národním divadle dne 17. listopadu 1905. Režii premiérového představení měl Jaroslav Kvapil. Jedná se o autorovu nejznámější hru, zároveň s tím se jedná o vůbec nejhranější původní českou divadelní hru všech dob, která byla i několikrát zfilmována. Nejznámější televizní verze pochází z roku 1967 a režii tohoto ztvárnění provedl František Filip. Hra časově spadá do historického období, kdy se sedláci dožadovali zrušení nevolnictví a povinné roboty. Anotace: This work puts a particular emphasis on the mixing and osmosis of the first Mediterranean civilizations, with particular reference to the Minoan, Cycladic, Mycenaean, and Trojan, and on the causes of their decline, which are to be identified in a jumble of natural and human causes, and in a long-lasting, slow, but irreversible crisis.
