Ning Wang (CHI)

Dr. Ning Wang grew up in rural Hubei, China in the 1970s and was educated at Beijing University in the late 1980s and the University of Chicago during the 1990s. He is mainly interested in new institutional economics and China’s political economy. He has written extensively on China’s transition to a market economy and open society.

Dr. Wang is editor of Man and the Economy: The Journal of the Coase Society. He is also International Director of the Ronald Coase Center for the Study of the Economy at Zhejiang University, adjunct professor of law and economics at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Honorary Fellow at the Ronald Coase Center for Property Rights Research at the University of Hong Kong.

Dr. Wang has lectured widely on China in the academic, policy and business communities, both inside and outside China. He was Senior Fellow of the Ronald Coase Institute, Franco Forlin Lecturer at Istituto Bruno Leoni (Italy), Visiting Fellow at the University of Chicago Law School, and Visiting Research Fellow at the Institute of Developing Economies at Chiba, Japan.

With the late Nobel laureate Ronald Coase, Dr. Wang co-authored How China Became Capitalist, now available in eight languages. The book won the 2012 Arthur Seldon Award for Excellence from the Institute of Economic Affairs (London) and the 2013 Antony Fisher International Memorial Award from the Atlas Economic Research Foundation (Washington, D.C.). The Chinese translation won the 2013 China’s Best Books Award and several other book awards in China.
