In my opinion the best comedy ever. Their parody and stultification of foundation-stones of all the possible religions are so excellent that makes me almost cry with sense of absolute accuracy.

For me one of the most principal movie. I watched it in my early teenage and at that time it seeded in me the resistance against all kind of ideologies (no matter if it's fascism, communism or any religion).

Fictitious character "Jára da Cimrman" is the Czech national phenomenon. Around this neglected genial mathematician, physicist, writer, sportsman, playwriter, philosopher, technician, poet, criminalist, inventor, linguist, explorer, musician, etc... a group of formerly amateur humorists created wast legend including the fabulous works, pieces, stage-plays, etc. They incorporate real historical facts, events, inventions, works, personalities into his fabulous biography. This bright, intelligent, slow, statical, expression-focused, cultivated, ironical humour has no precedent in history. It amuses almost two generation of Czech people. Unfortunately, this kind of humour is hardly translatable to the people who are not in deep knowledge of Czech cultural area.

Their performance always consists of two parts. First part is so called "seminar", where properly dressed seriously looking men read their seminar paper about newly discovered information about the live & work of the neglected genius. The second part of the performance is composed of an example of master's work, mostly stage-play. ZÁSKOK belongs to their best.

Agricultural humour. One of the best among "nice Czech movies".

Marvelous Michelle Pfeiffer, emotionally intensive movie. Sorry, Mr. Forman, but much more better than your Valmont.

Rough, passionate, excellent historical fresco.

Strong, very strong movie. Black-and-White, rigorous, almost documentary tune of the movie just boosting the effect of the movie. If there were not scenes like unnecessarily pathetic scene of leave-taking between Schindler and "his" Jews, the evaluation would be absolute.

This movie was for me like a revelation. A soft balancing between the insanity and "normality" with the heavily depressed undertone and salvation at the end. Geographical determinism in practice. I cannot imagine this movie would be made south from Denmark :-).

Perfect caricature of the communist regime... The great movie from director Zdenek Podskalsky. Excellent Rudolf Hrusinky as chairman of Town National Committee (communist analogy of Town Council) and no less excellent Milos Kopecky as his deputy. Precise script. Surprisingly courageous - the movie was made in 1965.

Another great sitcom from British provenance, i.e. Britcom. Maybe the most diaphragm-breaking episode was the first episode of second season called "Work Out". We watched it with friends during our skiing week in Alps and we cried out loudly, nearly killed by laughter.

Hard to evaluate movie that is not a movie... Semi-fictitious story with real and very popular musicians and folk singers. Impressive music: the main goal of the picture!

Extraordinary comedy with typical British black humour; and yet satire as well. Well-turned and pointfull dialogues. At least five scenes where I nearly crowled on the floor struck down by laughter.

Great serial. For me the one of the best ever made. It intentionally gets near the "spirit of the time" in the way I imagined in the time of my youth when I was reading the ancient books.

Very forceful documentary film. I cannot say if the movie is not tendentious, but if not... I wouldn't rather think further. In wider context it is an interesting contribution to the discussion about the nature of men, about the cyclicality of events and unfortunately even the proof that Karel Marx was right in a couple of things.

Hugely intensive quasi-documentary movie.

Another classical and widely popular Czech movie. The film was made in early 50's and therefore there can be sensed some kind of euphoria after the accession of communist regime. This euphoria affected even such great cultural personality as Jan Werich was. However, it hadn't lasted for long.

Splendid Russian comedy. Atmosphere full of absurdities, vodka a archetypal Russian humour. But nothing is purposeless there... and quite right is the one, who told that this movie is much about the freedom.

Excellent thriller. Verhoeven made oppressive erotic atmosphere, between two main characters are nearly tactual sparkling and script is not simple. Great movie.
